TANGERANG - The Indonesian Film Festival Committee (FFI) officially announced the list of nominees for the 2023 FFI Piala Citra on Saturday (14/10). In this lineup, "I Saw A Ghost and It Was Beautiful," a production by UMN Pictures, earned a successful nomination for "Film Animasi Pendek Terbaik" (Best Short Animated Film). "I Saw A Ghost and It Was Beautiful" narrates the story of Eloise, a melancholic property agent, assigned to check on countryside villa after the sudden disappearance of its previous tenant. The film's director and writer, Bobby Fernando, shared that the idea of the story for "I Saw a Ghost and It Was Beautiful" had been evolving since 2019. He clarified that the film wasn't intentionally created as a "pandemic film". “However, the increasing number of cases that involving abuse faced by workers in various fields from corporations, or other large agencies, especially - but not only - during the pandemic, the film gave me a concrete and relevant foundation for the story idea which I had since 2019,” said Bobby, who is also a UMN alumni. Bobby also acknowledged that the creation of the film "I Saw A Ghost and It Was Beautiful" served as a means of reflecting on the relationship between himself and the subject matter. “Is this idea based on a genuine sense of solidarity, or is it just an outlet for frustration, or personal difficulties that I feel in life?” Bobby explained.
The producer of I Saw A Ghost and It Was Beautiful film and Director of UMN Pictures, Kemal Hasan, said that this film was made for a full year in 2022. Starting from the development stage to post-production. The highlight of the 2023 Piala Citra FFI awards will take place on November 14. Kemal hopes the best for this film as an appreciation for animation workers. “And hopefully in the future, Indonesia will have its own Animation Film Festival, which will be a forum for awards for animation workers in Indonesia,” continued Kemal.
